Colonial Life in America

this posts covers the period following the age of exploration. to the beginings of conflicts with great britian. it includes information illustrations maps and links related to websites.

Colonial life in America was very hard for the settlers that had hoped to find new land. They had come to gain religious freedom. They did not know how to live in the wilderness and they had no experience for the cold winters. They didn't know how to plant crops in this new soil. Many settlers died the first year because of starvation and diseases. Then the Native Americans taught the Europeans how to plant crops. They soon became friends. They traded goods. Then, a war began between the Native Americans and the Europeans. The Europeans had stronger men and better weapons. The Native Americans were weaker and had less men.
